Set Peace Of Mind As Your Highest Goal
As I grow older and mature, , I realise that true peace of mind must come from within myself and my actions.
I had to learn the hard way. Peace of mind was never anything I spent time thinking about until I found out I was going to be a first time mom.
Of course, physical changes were going to happen, as well as alterations to our home in preparation for our little prince. It was then I knew I had to begin work on my emotional state of mind.
I began by removing and rejecting toxic people from my life. It was not easy but necessary.
Our circumstances affect our mental state, but they don’t have to control them.
Here I have listed 8 essential things I picked up along this journey of happiness through self-awareness which has opened my eyes to how simple integrating daily habits can successfully bring you peace of mind.
1. Please, Thank You, I’m Sorry
Easy enough to say right? Wrong.
Some people would rather walk barefoot on broken glass while chewing on Carolina Reaper pepper than to say, “Please, Thank You, or I’m Sorry.”
Being able to say these words or phrases can make your life THAT MUCH EASIER.
An attitude of gratitude, expressing appreciation, whilst being able to acknowledge your wrongdoings can save you a lot of heartache, worry and help avoid unnecessary drama.
2. Shhhhhh! Be Quiet
Communicating verbally and silently are both extremely important. Reflective moments of silence allow us to digest what we said, or what has just been said to us. It pauses your first reaction in discussions and arguments (which is usually negative) and gives you a chance to think about your responses. Use these quotes to help you on your journey to finding peace.
3. Use The Law of Attraction To Attract Peace Of Mind
Thoughts, words, and actions create energy. Energy attracts like energy. Do you agree?
In agreement with the Law of Attraction, you attract into your life those things, circumstances and conditions that correspond with the nature of your habitual thoughts and beliefs.
Both conscious and subconscious. Put out what you want to get back. It really is that easy.

4. Birds That Flock Together
You have probably heard the saying “birds of the same feather flock together”.
If not, it simply means people who have similar characters or similar interests will often choose to spend time together. Surround yourself with good people.
People that will inspire you to be a better person, offer you motivation and inspiration to meet your goals. These are the people who want you to succeed.
You will be able to maintain peace of mind when you are surrounded by people who want the best for you.
5. Don’t Be A Control Freak (I need to work on this one!)
Peace of mind will come to you easier, the sooner you accept the fact that you cannot control all situations, at work, at home, or elsewhere in your life. Give yourself a break.
Learn to go with the flow now and again. Things are able to work out fine without your intervention.
6. Stop Being A Right-Fighter
Being a right-fighter causes you to depend upon others for your self-esteem and worth.
Right-fighters generally have their value or worth attached to the outcome of being right. Choose to be happy over being right.
7. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep
I used to love staying up into the wee hours of the night. Do you stay up thinking, worrying, planning the next day, week, months ahead?
I have recently started to enjoy the benefits of getting a good night’s sleep.
When your body finds peace and calm you will find it not only easy to fall asleep, but also stay asleep throughout the night.
Meditation while laying in bed is also a great way to practice finding your peace of mind.
Besides, we are usually friendlier when we are well rested.
8. Exude Confidence
Confidence can either be learned or built on. It is willing to take risks and go the extra mile to achieve better things.
Do not confuse this with over-confidence or arrogance. Accept compliments, build others up. Your posture and gestures will give you away every time.
Do you have low self confidence? This post right here will help you with identifying the warning signs of low confidence and how to fix it.

Peace of mine is important. Jesus wants us all to have peace, “peace be upon you'”
I definitely work on this daily, keeping a peace of mind. Meditation in the Word is the key for me.
[…] Easy Fix: When you hear yourself apologizing, acknowledge that the apology is inappropriate and remind yourself that you did not do anything wrong. This will give you great peace of mind. […]
[…] Last year, after finally realizing that having drama in my life is by choice, I cut ALL drama out of my life. Completely. No excuses. No exceptions. This was the only way I was able to gain peace of mind. […]
Some really good ideas here, defintley highlighted some great points especially the right fighter one!
Such great tips! Getting a good night’s sleep can do amazing things for you.
I think the silence one is important. I think more people need to learn to listen more than they talk.
You know recently I had to let some friends go who were negative Nelly’s. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I love these tips.
Excellent tips shared! A man is known by company he keeps and therefore it is necessary to surround yourself with people having positive attitude towards life, who can motivate you to achieve your dreams and live your passion each day!
Fantastic post! You’ve certainly learned a lot in 30+ years. I agree 100% with your assertions!
Quiet time is so important and necessary. I’ve recently decided I want to implement more time for myself into the morning (even though it means slightly less sleep) to give me peace of mind. I don’t snap on others as much when I feel like my body is balanced.
I love #4! I’m a trainer and it’s so important for people to be around other like-minded people.
I have been working hard on number 3 and number 5! Number 5 is especially important and has helped me out immensely!
Kyla
Im heading towards 40 and just realising how important sleep is and how much it affects me when i dont get enough good quality sleep! Marie
I love this list! I need quiet time, or else I get so cranky. I also need plenty of sleep because…well, again, I get cranky. 😉
I’ll be turning 40 next year and I yet to take a meditation class. Though I know the basics of it, I’m not still enough to practice it. Your post gives me an insight into finding that inner happiness, that we all need. My dad used to say, the day you stop looking for validation, you know that, you have reached “nirvana”. I’m totally with you when you say – “sleep, sleep, sleep”
I could relate to your post! Most of the time, especially when there is tension (e.g. at work) I’ll just let that tension pass… after that, I will calmly deal with it. And also always choose the fastest and less hassle solution.
Sleep and I are BEST FRIENDS! I have a difficult time taking compliments. I need to get better about it.
Loved this! The only thing I’ll add that I like to thing is also helpful, is being a giving person. Don’t just take, but put yourself out there to be there for others too. All over, people are waiting for the “gifts” we all have to give. Lovely post, thanks again.
I really enjoyed reading this, the part which stuck out for me the most was about the law of attraction. I’ve never really put much thought into (what some might call) ‘airy-fairy’ kinda stuff, but since January it has been so true that I can’t quite believe it.
I was down and negative and not in a good place at all, always stressed, ALWAYS tired- not just tired but just so… weak! I thought it was my blood sugar or iron level- but everything tested fine. As the winter turned into spring and we’ve been having some lovely sunny days here in UK, things have just changed completely. And I know deep down it’s NOT ‘luck’, it’s me and the decisions I’ve made to get here and the choices to wake up each day with a smile, to give out warm energy and smile to people- I’ve noticed people are smiling at me left, right and centre! Way to boost my self-esteem hehe 🙂
“Feeling positive” is easier said than done of course but it really does work, and I have 2 job offers to prove it! 😀 xx
I am so glad you shared this Sarah! We need to CHOOSE to be happy and positive in our outlook on life just like you said so that we don’t go around feeling miserable and worried all the time. The sun has a huge impact on my mood and I find I am happier on the days when the weather is nice and bright. When it is gloomy, I tend to be down and in the dumps which is when I have to remember to be strong and send out positive vibes. I am happy to read that you are seeing results from something as easy as smiling and giving out great warm energy. Congratulations on your job offers, and all the best for the one you decide to go for. Have a wonderful day and weekend. xoxox S.
I love the sleep tip! I have always found that I feel healthier and more energized when I sleep well. Even back when I was in high school I always gave myself a bedtime. And now I do the same for my daughter.
Lauren
I think I need to give myself a fixed bedtime too Lauren. At times I stay up later to write and then lose some of that great sleep!
Great tips, Sheri! These all help me, especially the sleep part. I tend to get super busy and my sleep suffers when I try to fit everything in my day. Focusing on getting enough rest, making sure I get so have some fun, and the occasional meditation and yoga are really great for me. I also still have trouble with my control issues over some things, and I still tend to worry about things to come, but I’m getting there.
Great list! It is amazing how slowing down, getting enough sleep, saying please and thank you improve quality of life.
Among these what I need is being confident. Surprisingly, although I appear successful I am my #1 critique
I guess this is what I really need and I have to agree with your first… saying sorry is definitely one of the hardest things a person can do but once he did, that’s one of the most rewarding experience he will ever have. However, if you say sorry, you should mean it, otherwise, if anger or hatred is still there, saying sorry will be useless and you will find it hard to achieve that peace of mind
thanks for this wonderful tips
Milton, your feedback is completely on point. When an apology is forced or insincere it has no value. Thank you for reading and sharing. 🙂
What a great post indeed. Please, Thank you and Sorry is the most easiest way but harder to express. I love this post. Thank you for sharing.
please, thank you and sorry, it seems so easy to say unless ego gets into the way! especially I’m sorry! Thats the hardest for some people!
Your list are perfect. It all comes from us. Most of the time we can’t control any situation. E can’t change other people. The only thing that we can control is our self, our emotion and our thoughts. Keep in positive mode always. Thanks for sharong, this is an amazing post.
Lovely list of ways to have peace of mind. But like what you said, it takes time and practice. It is innate human nature to want and desire things that they don’t have, “the grass is always greener on the other side,” so if I may, I would add contentment in the list, and acceptance that not all expectations can be met.
I need this, especialy no 5 and 8
Having and using a gratitude journal really can help bring peace of mind too. So important to express gratitude in some way.
Great tips! Especially the Law of Attraction, and saying “I’m sorry”. Those are the ones I need to work on.
I am agreeing to all of these! The number 7 is really true. Lack of sleep can really ruin your day. I will remember all these tips!!! Thanks
The list doesn’t only help you have a peace of mind but also it helps influencing other people as well.
Stargazer, you are absolutely right! 🙂
Have you heard of the ho’oponopono? Because your number 1 is somewhat related to it. It has a mantra that says, “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you.” This mantra helps me a lot, sorts of cleanses me. I just mentioned it because it also reflects the ideas in your list.
I am also a follower of Law of Attraction thought it is not that easy to do hahaha…
Marjorie, I had never heard of that but thank you for sharing this with me. I will share that on my page. I appreciate your feedback.
I love every recommendation. It’s important that we really stay positive and always look at the bright side to have a peace of mind. Thank you for this beautiful reminder. I hope you have a peaceful and great day ahead. 🙂
Thank you Melissa, I wish you the same. 🙂
Your article is so helpful, maybe I’ll pratice in my life. Thanks 🙂
THIS IS EXCELLENT. All the points you gave are spot on! I am stumbling this post too so I could return time and again.
As a fan of personal development, the 8 points are the basics of what we all should be doing or how we think. There are more, and so personal development is a continuous process.
Thank you for your kind words Robert, and for stumbling this post. I am big on self development and how it can enable each of us to live this journey called life in the best and most meaningful way. It is a process as you said, as well as daily practice for improvement. Going to take a look at your blog now. 🙂
Yes! Like you I definitely need to work on the sleep part. I start remembering all the things I didn’t do and suddenly its 2am. Definitely trying to do better. Great post!
All I can say is I agree! All here are true and this post is helpful and will always serve as a reminder whenever I’m out of my mind.
i really enjoyed this post Sheri lovely points
Thank you Kerona. Not only should we be inspired by others, we need to be an inspiration to others aswell. 🙂
I really need to work on numbers 5-7! Ok… fine and a little bit of number 1. Maybe I just need to work on all of them. 🙂 This is a great list!
LOL Inez! Thanks for the feedback. You can work on each one or prioritize what serves your needs best at this moment in your life. I am working on all of them 🙂
I needed this!! Thanks for this- I need to work on some of these! 🙂
You are most welcome! I am glad you were able to gain something from this post 🙂
I think it is important to accept people for whom they are. When you do so, you have less stress about trying to change their behavior. You have great ideas. I know when I get enough sleep I am better at dealing with the day’s stresses.
Great post! I personally need to work on getting more sleep (please sleep in tomorrow, kids!), and letting go of control!
Great tips. The 2 that work best for me is getting enough sleep and finding that quiet space to work.
Yes x1000! This is such an honest post filled with beautiful recommendations! Lovely!
Thank you DeAnna 🙂
I totally enjoyed reading this post. Found myself involved and thinking about every point.
Thanks for the lovely feedback Candy. This is the part that makes me enjoy writing 🙂
Love this quote “Love life and it will love you back! Well said! Thanks for sharing such an inspiring post! 🙂
I am glad you enjoyed it Eugenia. Thank U
These are great! Isn’t it amazing how when we hit our 30’s we really gain a lot of wisdom and stop caring so much about everything everybody else tells us to do? Now if we can just get more of the world on board!
Yes Amanda! We should start a 30+ movement 🙂
I definitely need to work on my sleep! The others are coming slowly but surely. Great tips!
Thanks Amanda! 🙂
This is a beautiful post. Such important things for us to remember. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind comment Julie.
Love this!!
Great words of wisdom. I find good sleep, a cup of tea, giving others honest compliments, and spending time outside really puts me in a positive mindset. Love this post!
Thank you for sharing and for the great feedback. I am drinking a cup of tea right now as I write this. Very relaxing.
I’m the big 5 3 so I’ve got a bit of aging on you. I’d love to get some sleep and I’d love more peace in my life, but things are chaotic right now. With two businesses, three blogs, homeschooling my teenage son, having several chronic illnesses, and trying to make ends meet after a year of no income when my dh lost his job.
Jojo…your comment tells me two things. One you are a wonder woman, and two, you are a very strong woman. How do you manage all these things? I am sad to hear about your difficulties and I am sending prayers, hugs and well wishes your way to you for a better and brighter future. Lots of Love, xoxox S.
I have found that trying to meditate for as little as 10 minutes helps my mind quiet down. Even if my mind was racing the whole time I was trying to focus on my breathing I always feel like I at least gave it time to work itself out. If I have to face a particularly stressful day I find any small amount of quiet/still time I can give myself helps me feel more prepared, and less scattered, to take on whatever tasks are at hand. I love this list! and I have been trying to work on letting go of the need to control everything and surrounding myself with good people. Thank-you!
Hi Jocelyn, you are right, meditation is amazing – even for short periods of time. thank you for sharing your tips and what has been working for you. It is very encouraging.
Awesome post ! I can relate to most (all) of it , I wish more peopke would think that way . Would make this world a little bit better Thanks for a great reading !
