What To Do When Dealing With A Bad Day And There’s No Joy In Sight
Ever have one of those days or even weeks where everything is going wrong? you are dealing with a bad day and it just seems gets worse from one moment to the next?
Where you just can’t get anything done the right way?
You spill coffee on your laptop, the car has a flat tire, your hair is frizzy. Your kids answer no to everything you say and ask.
You missed a meeting at work because you had it scheduled for the wrong day.
This is where victim playing may step in. “Oh, woe is me.” The universe just seems to be working against you.
Last Sunday was kind of like that for me. By late-afternoon I was done. Tired.
Why Am I Telling You This?
I almost made a complete stranger make my day worse.
A few days ago, I wrote a post about millennial moms and why I think we are great.
The post was filled with girl power and women empowerment. Barely 24 hours later, an older non- millennial mom left me a comment on the post.
She all millennial moms, myself included, knew nothing about life. In her words, “millennial moms are empty, hollow and vain!” Whoa!
Three words no one who knows me would ever use to describe me.
I was dealing with a bad day already, so I really didn’t need this at all.
At first, I laughed at the comment. This lady is so ridiculous! Well, she’s not a lady, but let’s pretend. 🙂
Then I read it over three or four more times. Trying to find something, anything I could have said that would piss someone off. There was nothing.
Great! Another thing to add to my “dealing with a bad day” list.
Being Vulnerable
Every time I share a post, I am sharing ways to help you simplify your life.
Within that, I am also sharing with you a part of my life, my past, my story and my journey. It makes me vulnerable.
Open for judgement, shame, and attacks.
Her comments had everything to do with her and nothing to do with me.
Had this been two years ago, I would have been so upset, sad, and would have thought about deleting the post out fear of possible mean comments to come.
I enjoy having discussions on my posts. Different mindsets, perspectives and opinions. But downright meanness and bullying? No way.
Part of my self-growth journey and decluttering my life from anything toxic has been learning how to redirect my thoughts and feelings.
I had to stop myself to ask why I would let this person step into my inner bubble and affect how I feel?
As the saying goes, “nobody can drive you crazy, unless you hand them the keys.” Right? Right!
When you judge others, it is more about you and less about the person you are judging.
What Do You Do When You Are Dealing With A Bad Day
1. Embrace And Deal With It
Nothing is ever “wrong” with you. When a bad day gets worse, it is because you are going through a phase of contrast.
A lesson is about to be taught and learned.
It is important for you to go through this to learn the lesson sent your way.
2. See It As A Challenge, A Game
Catch the lemons being thrown at you and learn to make the best lemonade out of them.
Come out of each and any bad situation or experience a better you.
It will not be easy, but knowing that you will come out of any adversity a better person is more motivating than going through it entirely frustrated.
You aim here is to come out of the challenge a winner.
We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year! – Russell M. Nelson
3. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others
Don’t think “why is her life so perfect?” or “why does everything seem to go right for her?”
Comparison is the thief of joy!
It is so easy to get caught up in that. Comparison introduces a mindset of lack.
Stop it.
4. Listen To Your Inner Voice As Well As Your Body
Have you noticed your body giving you signs prior to dealing with a bad day?
Never noticed? Keep this in mind for next time.
Lack of sleep, loss of appetite, exhaustion, difficulty getting out of bed.
Your subconscious is using your body to try to alert you about something.
Learn to recognize the signs ahead of time.

5 . Find Your Balance
When you are dealing with a bad day, it can be hard to find your balance.
You can juggle a lot of things, just not equally.
Choose one to three things you want to focus on.
Get those to the level you want, then choose another set of things and rise those to your goal or level.
You will find that fewer things will go wrong, and more will go right.
6. Get Rid Of Your Own Roadblocks
At times, when you feel everything is going wrong in your life, look within.
Reasons a bad day gets worse could be a result of your own doing.
How many roadblocks have you set in your own path?
What’s stopping you from TRULY going after what you want?
You tell yourself you can’t, you have negative self talk.
Why not turn that negative energy into something positive. In order to ensure great outcomes.
7 Create Daily Routines (that you’ll actually do)
LOL. I’m laughing because it’s so to create daily habits and routines.
To actually do them is a whole other story.
I love goal setting, which is why I am giving you this free and awesome goal setting guide.
Always ask yourself what are five reasons why I want to achieve this goal?
Some people set goals and cannot give you one reason why. Never set your goals based on expectations others have of you.
Your mind is the biggest part of achieving any goal.
There you go! Seven things you can do when you feel like everything is going wrong.
Not all days can be great, happy, or perfect.
Be present in everything you do. Adjust your old habits and watch things fall into place.
Whenever your bad day gets worse, find a way to transform your perspective so that obstacles feel like opportunities.
How do you deal with things when a bad day gets worse?

So inspirational, I love it! xx I have bad days and I will book mark this
I need this post over the weekend! I can let a bad day get to me so easily. I’m working on it, but it will always in a work in progress for me. Thanks for being honest and reaching out to others who struggle with this as well. A positive mind makes a positive life.
Oh, these advises are so helpful. Also, when faced with such adversities, I simply stay still, pause for a little while, pray and then like magic, everything turns right.
Yea, those comments can really hurt and take a day from bad to worse. These points you share are really great ideas and ways to keep a positive outlook. I love that lemonade phrase 😉 – Cori
So amazing tips. So motivational and it helps the inner person to react happily on such aspects of life.
I love your advice in the post. I would definitely use some of these tips when I am having a bad day. Thanks for sharing.
Holy smokes! I cannot believe you got a comment like that! Well, okay yeah I can, the internet is filled with some pretty hateful people! Anyways, thinking of your bad day as a challenge or a game is GENIUS! I’m totally doing that from now on. Thanks for the great advice! -Stacy
I have had a few of these days myself and I definitely agree with your list. I also make it a point to not take anything someone says in the comments seriously. Some people get joy out of trolling and playing devils advocate. I love your list and will definitely remember these items the next time a bad day starts lurking around me!
I love this post. Sometimes it’s super hard to get out of a bad day. Thanks for sharing.
Totally Agreed to your post ! Listen To Your Inner Voice is the key the to change your day ! It just you who can change anything
Setting myself routines always helps me have a better day, keeping the mind and body busy I find really stimulates happy emotions and can help you push and negative or bad thoughts and worries to the back of your mind. It just makes the day easier!
Much love, Caitylis x x
It’s been a long time since I had a bad day, mostly my bad days are related to work somehow so I think this maternity leave has done wonders to me. Not looking forward to going back though. Great post! 🙂
What a great post. I did have a bad day yesterday at work. It was just one of those days where everything was not going according to plan. I nearly lost it but I manage to compose myself and got through it. As you’ve rightly put it, nobody can drive you cray unless you hand them the key.
I love your advice! I too sometimes have “bad days,” but I know that they’re just temporary. I usually try my best to remember that not every day is like that and keep on pressing on…
I totally needed this today! My husband is gone for the next week to a temporary duty station and it sucks being separated, especially since it has been a while since we have been separated and I got spoiled by seeing him everyday. All I want to do is lay in bed lol but I’ll be using some of these tips in the upcoming days.
Such great tips! I usually let one bad thing spiral my whole day into a bad week.
Very interesting article. sometimes I play guitar after a bad to relax myself. 🙂
Great motivation tips, need to try to try them out, because i am facing so many bad days lately xo
These are great tips! I could have used some of these when i was having a really bad day recently ❤
This tips just amazing and everyone needs this and so do I. Im sure everyone has this experience with bad day. xo
When the day gets tough .I get tougher and I have chocolates. People who are mean and unkind are plain unhappy .It has nothing to do with you but everything to do with them.I feel sad when people are unnecessarily vicious (it happened recently) .I stry back and then act .Plus chocolates help and hugs.
If it’s the weekend I can hide under my sheets. I accept that everyone is going to have a different perspective. Just like a critique at work it’s usually nothing personal and if it’s by a boss it’s meant to make me better. Im sure something’s/ways I respond are taking the wrong way too. I’m sarcastic and funny and that may not translate. Sometimes another person’s confidence is too much for others or they feel low enough already and did that made their day worse. I have to get up because my kidsay be watching and I want them to see a better way of dealing with things.
love this Post! sometimes its really hard to go thru a bad day! Great tips BTW!!
very inspirational and post full of motivation, thanks for sharing xo
