Ready To Know The Most Important Lessons I’ve Learned?
Today is my birthday. Yayyy!
An excellent moment to reflect on the most important lessons I’ve learned.
I have had some wonderful life experiences, including ups and downs, but that’s life, isn’t it?
Learning from these experiences and realizing that happiness is a choice has been life-changing.
My journey of self-growth and embracing a minimalist lifestyle over the past two years has helped me see things from a unique perspective.

I have been able to embrace my authentic self and practice self-love. Finally.
I can’t believe it took me this long to do it.
Not only do I rely solely on myself to be happy, I also have become my own friend.
Doing this has helped me to let go of negative self-talk and practice speaking daily positive affirmations.
I’m in the best place I’ve been and life just keeps getting better. I am grateful for everything in my life today.
The most important lessons I’ve learned so far have helped shape my thoughts and perspectives.
I feel more zealous for living. I feel free.
As I mentioned, it is my birthday today – my 35th one to be precise.
I thought I’d share with you the most important lessons I’ve learned in 35 years.
Maybe you have learned some of the same, and if not, I hope it inspires and motivates you to embrace a simplified and happier life.
So here goes…….
1. The more you focus, the more you see….
2. Happiness is not only a habit, it is a choice.
3. Your reputation is more important than your paycheck.
4. Life will never be perfect.
5. Be kind to yourself.
6. Be kind to others. Always.
7. It is important to invest in yourself.
8. Learn to live with uncertainty.
9. It’s OK to fail – if you try again.
10. Learn how to say no.
A great attitude becomes a great day which becomes a great month, which becomes a great year, which becomes a great life. – Mandy Hale
11. It is impossible to make everyone happy.
12. Consistency pays off.
13. You can make things happen for you by speaking it into the universe.
14. Your history is just as important as your future.
15. Allow yourself to be where you are.
16. You always have a choice.
17. Que sera sera – Whatever will be, will be.
18. Never displease yourself in order to please others.
19. Your dreams will reveal things to you if you pay attention.
20. Drink more water.
Do not let anyone ever make you feel like you do not deserve what you want. – Heath Ledger
21. There is love in compromise.
22. Pick your battles.
23. Nothing is ever wasted.
24. Always, always, always, listen to your intuition.
25. Maintain an attitude of gratitude.
26. Accept that people change.
27. If someone tells you that you have changed, accept it as a compliment.
28. Choose your words wisely.
29. Know how to say sorry, thank you and I love you.
30. Kids learn more from their parents’ behaviour more than their words.
After a while, you learn to ignore the names people call you and just trust who you are. – Shrek
31. Your passion will become your purpose.
32. Seek quality in your relationships, thoughts and conversations.
33. Have confidence.
34. Follow your heart, it knows the way.
35. Never say never. Life is unpredictable.

Among the most important lessons I’ve learned so far is that you can also see life as an equation.
Make additions to your life with people who motivate and inspire you to do and be your best.
Subtract those who fill your life with hurt, negativity and pain.
Multiply the people around you who love you unconditionally; and finally, divide the ones who do not appreciate you.
I am a work in progress, still learning every day.
There surely will be new lessons learned between today and my next birthday.
All I can say is that I am excited for what is to come.
Can you relate to the most important lessons I’ve learned in life?
Kindly share them with me in the comments section below!
I hope your day is as great as mine.

The greatest lesson i hve learnt is to listen to your intuition*
Such wonderful life lessons! Whenever I read these, I always wonder what the stories are behind them. While a decade older, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to stop trying to be all things to all people. Right around the time I turned 40, I looked around and realized “something’s got to go, and it certainly isn’t going to be me!” It’s truly made all of the difference. x
Hi lori!! I loved the way you complied the lessons of your life in bits and peices, still connected to each other. Could you suggest me some books on inner growth.?
Thanks Avneet, but ,y name is not Lori.
Happy birthday! I think your onto something! My favorite quote goes ,,She woke up every morning with the option of being anyone she wished. How beautiful it was, that she always chose herself.” Self love isn’t selfish it’s important, it’s not bad! You can’t love anyone if you don’t love yourself first!
I love this quote!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your feedback. I agree with you completely. 🙂
So much wisdom….
I cannot stress how important lesson #7 is! Something as simple as investing in our own happiness can make SUCH a difference in your outlook on life. Thank you for sharing!
I loved your post. I too am in my 30s and I can completely relate myself. I loved your lines where you connected maths equation with life.
These are great lessons! I wrote a post like this for my 30th birthday. It was a great chance to reflect on things that meant a lot to me.
This is wonderful! I’ve just really realized and started paying attention to #8, #11, and #18 over the past few years. The thirties are so rich with life lessons though! Happy belated birthday! I hope it was absolutely wonderful!
I absolutely agree with everything you have written here. Some really wonderful lessons to be learnt.
hapy bday – its good that you highlight that having a positive outlook is worthwhile
It took me a long time to realize that happiness is a choice! I hope you had a most wonderful and fun birthday!
Hope you had a wonderful birthday! Sounds like you’ve learned quite a lot. So glad you’re at a place that you can practice self love. It’s so important
Belated Happy Birthday Sheri! I wish you more success and good health to come. I love those lessons in life which you put all together and I also believe in same thought that you mentioned “Be kind to others. Always.” – We never know who and where life lead us to, so I always strive to live with that principle. More birthdays and wisdom to come!

I am 31 years old and can surely relate to many of the lessons here.
Happy belated birthday!
My most recent birthday was also the Big 3-5! Happy Birthday to you and all of your lessons are spot-on! The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the past 35 years is to just “do me”…not the me that my classmates want to see, or parents want to see, or siblings want to see, or society wants to see..but the unedited, raw, uncut, completely pure version of me.
Happy Birthday and hope you have had a great 35th Birthday. When I got to 35 that’s when I started with aches and pains
Happy Belated Birthday. Hope you had a wonderful day! Thanks for the amazing article.
Happy birthday! I am happy to see you have learned so much through these years. Life is a never ending chain of both happy and not so happy experiences and these are the ones that will mold us to be better individuals.
Happy belated birthday, I love this post because I could learn a thing or two. I am starting to practice a lot more of these now as I want to grow and be a happier person all round. This is such a wonderful post.

Happy birthday!! Your tips are all very wise. Thanks for sharing:)
Aw Happy Birthday!! I just love all of these little lessons.
Awww, so much positivity here!! 🙂
x finja
#31 & #33 are ones I can relate to. Thanks and happy belated b-day!!!
First of all Happy Birthday! I hope you’ve had a brilliant day. Also this post is so good, I can relate to so many of the things you said. I definitely agree it’s impossible to make everyone happy, as hard as we try x
Tiffany x
Happiest of birthdays to you :). What an awesome and inspiring list. Still working on a couple of these myself but I feel like I learn a new one in every situation.
My Mum used to sing Que Sera Sera to me as a baby and I sing it to my two. Definitely a quote to remember x
This is a beautiful post. Happy birthday btw. I resonate with many of these lessons. Hmm …if there’s another lesson I’ve learned it’s that family isn’t always blood but sometimes your true family are your friends. Hope you enjoyed your day.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, I agree with you on family isn’t always blood. That is a good lesson to learn in order to avoid disappointment.
great list, I’m afraid that it might be those advises that you need to grow into rather then just embrace, but I’m sure it can always help to hear in order to grow
Happiest Birthday to you! Thanks for sharing the lessons you have learned so we could also learn from them. I wish you luck and May God Bless you more.
Thank you for your kind words Arra! xoxox
Great outlook on life love! Happy Birthday love I hope you get the love you give returned back to you in so much abundance.
Happy Birthday!!!!! It sounds like you have learnt some very important life lessons that will benefit you greatly. I need to remember to say no sometimes as I tend to take on too much.
Happy Birthday! One thing I learned (and I am a few years older than you are), is to find peace in quiet.
That is a great lesson Alicia! I should add that to my list for next year. 🙂
These are fantastic life lessons – I love that you shared them. You are wise at a young age!
Awww thank you Heather. I have a huge smile on my face now. 🙂
Great list! I just had a birthday this is inspiring me to think more about the past year and take stock in what I’ve learned!! Happy Birthday!!!
Happy belated birthday Alyssa!
Happy Birthday!! Those are all really great life lessons! I’m a July girl, too. My birthday is…oh wow, it’s in two days, lol! Kind of just sneaks up on you, doesn’t it?
Happy upcoming birthday Nicole! Wishing you all of the very best in life! have a great one. xoxox S.
Happy Birthday! These are great lessons that you have learned. Thanks for sharing these, I hope my children have learned these from me too.
Hi Sheri,
Happy Birthday
Thanks a lot for sharing the wisdom you got through your experience.
It’s very important that one should be happy oneself without any reason without anybody. We don’t have control over others they may leave, reasons for which we were happy may dissipate. But if we learn to be happy ourselves it will remain forever.
Of course, “Love life and it will love you back”. It’s law of nature, whatever we do it will return back. Whatever we think that we will be that’s the essence of being positive.
I have learned a lot through your article.
I will tweet your post.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Thank you Manish. You are so wise, your words all are so true. I appreciate your positive and motivating feedback.
Well Happy Birthday! I’m about to hit my “dirty thirty” so I’m sure I’ll compile a list like this!
Happy belated birthday! I hope it was wonderful and that you enjoyed your day. This is an awesome list of lessons. I think #11 is my favorite. Still working on that one. 🙂
Happy birthday. A great list there. At the end of the day, as you say, it is entirely up to you if you want to be happy or not. I have noticed that myself too in the last few years but many years ago, gripped with all sorts of issues, I’d would not have allowed myself to become happy.
Oh Adam, I am so glad to hear you have learned this lesson. It will free you of worry and heartache. Always speak positive affirmations to yourself and you will see your world changing. All the best! Sheri
Happy Birthday! You have so many good points on your list, embracing a simplified and happier life is so much more rewarding.
I hope you had a great Birthday. I find as I get older I feel more confident in myself and care less what others think. I think daily positive affirmations have a huge impact on a person.
I am also learning this and getting there. I was so confident in my teens, then along came my 20″s and my self-esteem and confidence disappeared and I am only just getting it back. It is a part of my journey and I am a work in progress. So glad to read your words today, and know I am on the right path. Thank you Claudia. xoxo
I love this! So much truth in those lessons learned <3 my favorite must be the last one though – Never Say Never. Life is Unpredictable. I couldn't agree more!
Happy birthday to you! I am still learning how to love my authentic self and I’m so happy that you are able to get there. It is very important to me to learn to love myself fully.
We’re nearly birthday twins, then, because my birthday is tomorrow! I love being in my mid-30’s. I think there’s wisdom I never imagined. I love all of your points!
Hey Tamara! Or should I just call you twin? I think the 30’s is a perfect time to step out of your comfort zone, really embrace who you are and life itself, and experience things with a new perspective!
Happy Birthday! These are all words to live by. I feel like the older I get, the more I understand myself and who I want to be in this world.
Happy Birthday!! I love all of the things you have learned, but my favorites are , “Happiness is not only a habit, it is a choice.” and “Be kind to yourself.” I too, have learned these things in life. It’s always much easier to complain than it is to see the positive, and it’s easier to criticize yourself than praise yourself. Life is about how you see it and deal with it. I truly believe that.
Happy birthday! You have a lot of great things on your list and I identify with a lot of them. I really like the one about happiness is not just a habit, but a choice. There are so many great reminders hear that and he supposed this for myself to remember.
Happy belated birthday!! Loved these lessons you shared with us–so glad you are able to practice self-love! That is what I am working on right now
Happy Birthday! Life is full of lessons and the one thing I’ve learned along my journey thus far is “love ’em anyway”. I loved your life equation. It kinda reminded me of my grandma saying some people are in our lives for a season, appreciate them in that season. Hope your birthday was amazing and here’s to a year full of blessings and light.
I don’t even know which one I like the best because I love them all. I love “Energy flows where attention goes”, which is just rewording some of your lessons. Have a great birthday.
Happy Birthday. hope its not coming late. do have fun…
Happy Birthday to you, I hope you have a lovely day! This was such a great post and I agree with the lessons, I’ve also learnt those things in my years. The happiness being a choice is one that really stuck in my mind.
Happy birthday and you don’t look a day over 25 girl but so happy for you and I have learnt similar lessons but you added more. I have always believed happiness is a choice and you can’t make everyone happy.
Awwww, thank you Anosa! I am blushing now. 🙂 xoxox
Embracing your authentic self is a very important part of being true to yourself. We spend too much time trying to please others.
Happy Birthday! Wishes of love, fulfillment and a warm heart, many friends, new adventures and the ability to be in the moment!
Thank you so much Kimberly Ann. I really appreciate the words of well wishes and accept them fully into my life. 🙂 You are a sweetheart. xoxo S.
Happy Birthday! My birthday is in four days so this post is super relevant! There are many things I identified with in your list including learning to say ‘no’, being kind to yourself and that happiness is a choice!
Hi Lori! Wishing you a wonderful and happy birthday in advance. Hope your day is a special one. xoxo
