I Love Being Me – And You Should Love Being You
Being Special
Believe it or not, had I had to write this post a few years ago, I would not have been able to come up with more than three reasons why I love being me.
I did not love myself. I was self-critical and my own worst enemy. Nothing will bring you down quicker than berating yourself.
Well, what a difference a few years can make! I started sharing my writing and content with the world in order to inspire others to live an intentional and purposeful life.
Writing has given me the chance to learn a lot about myself, so here are the five fabulous reasons why I love being me.
1. I Am A Great Mom
I love being me because whilst I am not the perfect mom, I know I am a great mom.
Being a mother is the best thing in the world. I know every mom says so – well, it’s true!
Our family has tons of fun together, great moments and continue to create memories for our little happy family of three.
When I was pregnant, I suffered a lot of anxiety and worry, sleepless nights about not succeeding in being the absolute perfect mother. My little one has taught me that I didn’t have to be.
It’s rare for a mom to never experience self-doubt. Yes, arming yourself with information is useful. Do you agree that too much expert advice can lead you into the trap of believing that there is only one right way to do things?
You in turn start believing that if you’re not doing things that one particular way, your kids will suffer the consequences of your actions…..the perfect recipe for mother’s guilt.
I have accepted the fact that I cannot be a perfect mom, and I am OK with that.
Being a great mom, having my son healthy, happy and loving me back is enough for me.
Suggestion for a new mom? “Read your baby, not your baby book”
2. I Am Responsible For My Own Happiness
My outlook on life literally changed after I learned this. I had in the past always relied on other people to make me happy. Friends, family…everyone.
Happiness is earned and created. When you take action by changing your thoughts and mindset into daily positive affirmations, you are telling yourself that your life is worth fighting for. You are taking responsibility for your life.
My advice to you?Keep this quote close to your heart. Happiness is not only a habit, but a choice.
“Happiness is a habit. Cultivate it.”Click To Tweet3. I Am Well Traveled
It has been amazing that I have been able to travel since I was 3 years old. I have visited so many countries and cities, lived in 8 countries, and speak 4 languages.
Pretty impressive right? Tooting my horn? YUP! Toot toot! Once in a while it is good to do so, build up self confidence.
If you are open to it, travel will open your mind to new experiences and people while broadening your mind. It will make you a more well-rounded human being. Which is really the goal, isn’t it?
I love being me because traveling has allowed me to learn about different cultures and ways of life. Visiting different destinations has helped me to grow as a person, understand different perspectives and most of all – people.
4. I Am Vulnerable
Being vulnerable means to show yourself to others completely without holding back for fear of rejection or judgment. Here are my strengths, here are my weaknesses, take me as I am.
Most of the time, we look for it in others but hide from it in ourselves.
Vulnerability can make you more susceptible to hurt and disappointment, true, but only then can we show our real and authentic self.
I love being me because embracing vulnerability has been a great experience for me.
I work on myself daily and it is opening up many doors for me.
5. I Am Unique
This is my favourite of my five reasons of why I love being me.
I no longer conform to what the media says I should look like or what people think I should be doing in and with my life.
'Why fit in when you were born to stand out?' - Dr. Seuss 'Click To Tweet
I am unique, my own person. There is no one person on planet earth that is exactly like me.
Yes, a lot of people are similar, share the same interests or experiences, but they are not me and I am not them.
My uniqueness and special qualities such as being loyal, a good friend, advice giver and listener (not bragging , LOL) sets me apart from others, and that is something to be proud of.
Standing out from the crowd is a good thing. Embrace life and savour the great moments in it.
Do you love being you? What makes you great, unique and special?
Please share with me one, three, or even five fabulous reasons why you love being you in the comments section below!

It’s refreshing to see a strong person talking about self love! We need to be more like you!
I love this post! It is so important to love yourself…I’ve gotten better with this over the years. It’s taken me admitting that there were things about myself that I didn’t love first to move forward in this process. That’s so awesome that you’ve had the opportunity to travel so much…I’d love to do more!
Yes Natasha, it has taken me so long to be able to do this. I was so proud of this post after actually being able to write it, then almost didn’t publish it because I did not want to come across as being egotistical or bragging. I have learned to love myself and thought if I shared it it could help others as well as be a reminder for me as to how far I have come in this journey of self love and self-improvement. I wish you the same in personal growth and hope you do get to travel some more. xoxo S.
AND you are gorgeous! I so love your blog! Its always great to reflect on ourselves and point out the good things! It’s something I need to do more often!
Oh blushing now! Thanks so much! I am glad you enjoyed the post and I appreciate you coming by to read my blog. I think self reflection can go a long way. Wishing you a wonderful day and week. xoxox S.
This is a wonderful and valuable post that I hope many see! I agree with all your points, for sure!
Thank you Patricia. I hope it is shared and can truly help other with building self-esteem and self love.
I love being me because I see the world very differently. I also love my very very long legs that make me fall everywhere. I also love my big bulb like nose. I love the scars on my face. I love the way i laugh and most of all I love how vulnerable and emotional i am, it’s the reason i can relate to people very well
And I LOVE this response! I love the way you are confident about who you are, looks and all, and it speaks volumes about your character and persona! SO glad you left a comment here, very motivating and inspiring Krista. Thank you so very much! Sheri 🙂
I love seeing people spread positivity to themselves! It is so rare!
I love this exercise! I feel like we all – as a society – tend to find the negatives in ourselves. It’s important to think about what makes us so unique and special!
Exactly Divya. We are all unique and do not need to look hard to find good within us. We all have it and need to express our self- love a little bit more. The more we love ourselves, the more we can be accepting and loving towards other people. xoxo S.
I rally enjoyed reading this. This is a good list to keep close by when you’re having a bad day.
We love this! Keep spreading this message it is truly beautiful.
Thank you so much Dr. Clark 🙂

love this post oh-so-much! So true that we’re in charge of our happiness! It’s a great reminder 😉 xx
all the little things together is what makes us who we are. keep it up!
Beautiful post! So uplifting – love how positive it was!
Wow – so well traveled you are! Very cool. So much worldy experience/knowledge and you’ve seen so much! And this is incredible! That is really something to celebrate! 🙂
We are all these things. Most important relationship you’ll ever have is with yourself. Great article!
Love this. When we’re asked what we are grateful for how long is it before we includes ourselves? Usually too long.
Lovely piece. It is so life-changing when we learn to love ourselves. I was especially moved by your thoughts on vulnerability, That’s something I am finally learning to embrace about myself as well.
Yes we are all different and unique in our own little way (:
Oooh, I love the suggestion of “read your baby, not your baby book.” I have found it’s too easy to fall into the “should” trap with kids, and sometimes baby books only add to our insecurities and worries. Great post 🙂
What an inspiring post! We should all feel this way about ourselves! And that is so cool that you know 4 languages!
Girl I love this! These are all amazing things to remember about ourselves. I think it’s vital fr our happiness to be content in who we are. Thank you for sharing this!
This is a really great post! Happiness really is an inside job and once we embrace who we are and love ourselves, everything else seems to fall into place.
This is so beautiful! You are awesome and so am I =) I need to acknowledge that more.
I agree that we are responsible for our own happiness. We can choose when and how to be happy/joyful in almost any circumstance.
what a lovely piece. too often we are self-critical to the point that we are our own worst enemies. We are def responsible for our own happiness
We are all unique in our own way and yes, I totally agree that we are responsible for our own happiness. I love this post.
It’s difficult to reach inside and find what we admire about ourselves for sure. Being unique should be on the top of everyones list!
Lots of people need to take a moment and do some “me time”. Giving yourself positive thoughts and feelings is SO important. Just as important as being kind to others.
Sheri, this was so refreshing to read! So often as wives an mothers, we don’t take time to appreciate ourselves. We put ourselves on the bottom and brag about our children’s qualities. Thank you for sharing how you can love yourself.
What I would do to be as self loving as this! This is awesome. Liife goal for sure!
I think many of us can relate to this. I know this is something I struggle with daily. Glad to see you are doing so well!
I love this! Feeding yourself with positivity every day is so important! No one is perfect, but it’s about focusing on the good. 🙂
This gave me a moment of reflection, too. I’m more well traveled than I know. I’ve been to many countries and my husband has only been out of the country twice… with ME!
These are all great points. I am definitely in charge of making sure I am happy. I need to work on that 🙂
I agree so damn much with every one of those reasons you’re stating! For me, it takes confidence to realize you’re happy with the one you are and with your inner self, but even tho it takes time, it worth it so much more than we would ever thought! As a matter of fact, when you’re growing old you’re just more confident and even you’re vulnerable, experiences makes your path your own. Indeed, when you said your favorite reason is the one regarding your uniqueness I couldn’t agree more. You’re unique and that’s why you gotta to love being yourself, because it doesn’t matter what others think tho!
Really good post. Can’t wait to see more xx
Love this post. It’s so nice to see someone posting self worth articles!
I love posts like this! I especially agree with the happiness one. It’s up to us to make ourselves happy not anyone else’s job!
Amazing post! A powerful one that kinda reminds everyone to be proud of who you are as a person. Love it!
I wish I could say that I was as well traveled as you. I have been to a few countries myself, but not as many as you have!
Omg just love this!!!! Nothing better than a little self love! I wish more people would embrace the goodness and love it!!!
This is such an inspiring post! It is so true that we should be happy in being ourselves.
This is a beautiful article. I think a lot of times people have a really hard time expressing these things about themselves.
I loved this! This world is filled with so much negativity that finding positives in ourselves is so important. It took me a long time to embrace my flaws and love myself.
These are all amazing reasons. Sometimes, we can be so hard on ourselves trying to be perfect parents even if we know that nobody is perfect.
Hello Sheri,
You never fail to inspire us with your post, and for that we admire you!
All of us are special and unique – we just have to find our inner-self and start to be happy on what we have.
Thank you and keep on inspiring!
Good for you for putting together this list and for loving yourself. I love how traveled you are and I completely agree that we are all responsible for our own happiness – that can be a hard lesson to learn.
Also- I could work on some of this too
Yes yes! I can’t agree more! All super great reasons to be happy with yourself. Bravo!
I am responsible for my own happiness – took me a while to learn that one, and to also learn what goes with it – I am not responsible for other people’s happiness. As a recovering people pleaser, I really have to remember that. I can’t please everyone!
I love this post, and I really appreciate it. I’ve gone through something this past months that definitely took a toll on me and I forgot to love myself in the process. This post is so inspiring and we should never forget to love ourselves!
Wow you are amazing. I love that you are so well versed in travel. It is my dream to travel more.
Great post. I think we all need to remind ourselves that we’re doing a good job as parents. So important.
It took me a long time to figure out that I was responsible for my own happiness. Like, last week. 🙂 Thanks for a beautiful post.
Girl you are an inspiration! I can’t believe you’ve been to so many places! I would love to travel that much. Have you ever been to India?
Hi. I have not been to India. India, Australia and New Zealand are the three places I want to visit the most. I hear India changes you. There is so much to see and do there, not to speak of all the things I can learn about others as well as myself. I am looking forward to the day I can go.
It is so good to take the time to love yourself and to realize that you are special! What a great post and so very introspective and inspiring. It really is a mark of greatness that you are confident and open enough to share this publicly. I thank you!
Thank you so much Judson. I am so moved by your wonderful words. Thank you so very much as at times I am afraid to post for fear of being judged, but feedback like this really gives me renewed strength and motivation.
It’s a wonderful thing to remind ourselfs of our value and this Is a wonderful post that shows shares just that. I know I’ve been guilty of being too busy to stop and give myself some on self love at times.
Sheri I love this! I think everyone should have their own Why I Love Being Me list.
A friend of mine recently mailed me a card that reminded me I am an awesome mom. Sometimes we forget that about ourselves. No shame in owning it either!
This is so perfect. We are not all perfect and we all have something to offer this world. Often times, we forget that.
I love that part about being valuable. Too many people forget that they have amazing value!!!!! It is so important to have self care and remember that important fact!
This is a wonderful post and I feel like this is something I need to write down about myself and read on day when life gets tough. Such a great way to stay inspired and thankful.
So inspiring Sheri, thanks for this! It comes as a great help to cope with my weaknesses and to give me strength, you can’t imagine how valuable this is in this moment to me, thanks
HI Gabi – Thank you for your feedback. I am happy my words spoke to you at a time that you needed them to. In whatever you are going through, I wish you strength and motivation to continue and come out of it better. If you need a little boost of daily inspiration, I have something that could help.
Click here: http://eepurl.com/b9y2ej Have a wonderful day, you are special, awesome and unique! xoxox S.
These are all amazing reasons to love yourself! Such a positive way of looking at things!
I think we all are each responsible for our own happiness. When it comes down to it, you have to guide your feelings and vibe. No one else can do that for you. Great list of reminders!
Lovely article..very inspiring and honest writing. I think it’s something we should all do from time to time.
5 amazing reasons ! you are such a fantastic woman….. Your travel life is inspirational… You matter and you are enough always…
Thank you for the kind and encouraging words Verushka – Happy Sunday 🙂
Deep post Sheri. Being vulnerable is indeed very important as it is revealing your true self to others. Honest people know how to be vulnerable, but indeed we get *used* by other at times, which is sad.
This is really something people should do once a week or maybe once a month, to write down all the positive things you can immagine about yourself and show some self-appreciation. This is really inspiring!
We definitely need to value ourselves, we are all different and different is good and unique.
We can only be ourselves, your post gives inspiration to be real to who we are. Great read.
The point is we should give time to ourselves and this inspiring post is something everyone should read!
Naaaa, whatever you are going through and what choices you have made in life, you are you and that no matter what people say, it doesn’t matter at all. You are special in your own way and I admire you for being who you are. 🙂 Stay awesome!
This is such an inspiring post. We often forget to value ourselves more, to love ourselves. Each of us is special, in their own unique way, and all of us should think about the reasons we should love ourselves more often:)
Omg just love this!!!! I’m all about self love!!! If we can’t live ourselves then how can we love anyone else?
Another lesson learned from a mom. Perhaps the best advice I got – read you kids and not a baby book. Oftentimes, we tend to research a lot and read so many books and literatures to find the answer to life’s mysteries when in fact, they are readily available once we open our eyes and understand our kids. Thank you for this.
Great post and your outlook on the topic. Uniqness is what makes us special. There’s no point to be like others.
This post is lovely. Indeed, one has to love one’s self to be happy and being positive in life. Anyway, I’ve only been to 16 countries at most, but I still love myself nonetheless. This is because I love that I’m a forgiving and loving person. This must be why I’m still in a happy bf-gf relationship which will be on its 5th year next, next week.
Hi Sheri, I loved every bit of this post! I’ve heard that to love one’s self is important in order to radiate the same love to other people. Seldom do we see people now who can fully embrace themselves. Some feel hopeless and choose to drown in insecurities instead and compare their lives to other people. Keep on inspiring people with your positive outlook and promote love for one’s self. <3
Thank you Rej – Feedback like yours make me secure that I am doing the right thing and going along the right path. Thank you for your words of encouragement. xoxo S.
What a wonderful post! Everyone should have a post like this and come back to it everytime one feels down or unappreciated. You’re so well-traveled! I love the part about read your baby, not the baby book. 😀
Great post. Uniqueness is what makes as special.
I want to cry. This post is beautiful. knowing yourself and accepting yourself is the most beautiful thing.
Thank you Valerie. Happy to hear my post touched you. I am finally accepting myself and it feels great.
I love this post! Loving ones self is a priority. And its true that we are responsible for our own happiness. I envy you for all your travels, its been my dream to visit different countries and learn about diverse cultures.. You rock! 🙂
Hi mommy Queen – I really hope that you get to travel and see different countries. I really believe it will change your life. The experiences will be amazing.
A healthy self-love and appreciation for our own talents and weaknesses is important in having good relationships. This kind of acceptance enables us to accept others also. When we do not appreciate what is unique in ourselves, it would be hard to appreciate what is unique in others also. This is a great exercise.
Fantastic post! You are who you are and even if there are 7 billion people in the planet, there is no one like you. Because you are unique, yes it is your choice to live how you want, and to see the world how you want to see it. More important, knowing yourself, what you can and cannot, that helps in your being such a positive person today.
Thank you so much Robert! I agree with knowing yourself. Once you know who you are and what you stand for, the rest will fall into place.
What a beautiful article! It’s truly inspiring and uplifting! I try to repeat the same words with myself, every single day. I have to say that one must reach a certain point of maturity before having these realizations in life, so congratulations! Many young women should learn from you. 🙂
Thank you so much maerose007. I have something for you for daily motivation: Click Here – http://eepurl.com/b9y2ej
No wonder you’re glad being you. You sound pretty cool 🙂 e should all does this sometimes.
I agree with Divya. We should all be doing a post like this. Honestly, I loved it, although at first when I read the title I thought, what a show off! Lol. Nothing wrong with loving yourself.
Hahahahahaha Joleisa! Well yes, I did toot my own horn (but briefly) 🙂 It took me a very long time to get to a point in life where I could list the things I love about myself, and I am so proud of it. Thank you for stopping by xoxo S.
Love it! It took me years to love myself and truly value myself. It took taking certain people out of my life, they were putting me down and affecting every aspect of me and I didn’t know it. I’m happy to see your confidence.
Hi Daytodaymoments – It took me a long time to learn this as well, and yes, I am all for removing toxic people from your life. It is painful but you will be better off for it. xoxox S.
Great post! We’re all unique in our own way and we should embrace that.
Hey Sheri,
Loved your post and your beautiful perspective of giving importance to yourself and loving your life! Traveling not only gives us so much memories but makes us a better human being through our experiences!
I’m so glad that I got a chance to meet you in this virtual world and get inspired!
xoxo Ana
Sheri, you are a true inspiration! Every time I read a post you amaze me. First, that you are such a talented woman. Second, because you are transparent and honest about who you are as a woman. We need more women like you! Great post!

It’s so wonderful to hear that you’ve made the journey toward loving yourself and it’s great that writing helped get you there.
Thank you! 🙂
This is an inspiring read! We like to talk about encouraging others but we can be very harsh on ourselves!
Abby
I love being unique in our own little ways. I am sure everyone is a great mom or at least tries to be sometimes.
Yes yes YES. Everyone should be asked to write something like this for themselves. So important to love yourself and understand why you are special!
Yes Divya! I think everyone should go through a period of self-reflection. Not only analysing the negatives or things they want to change about themselves, but embracing and celebrating what they love about themselves too. 🙂
Beautiful post! Sometimes the bravest things in life are the quietest
